The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is warning millions of Americans to be aware of scams and identity theft during the holiday season.
The announcement was made on Dec. 3 for the agency’s 10th annual National Tax Security Awareness Week. The initiative aims to raise awareness and educate the public about prevalent security threats.
IRS CEO Frank Bisignano said in the announcement that Americans should “take extra steps to protect their financial and tax information” ahead of the holidays and upcoming tax season, as fraudulent and scam activity typically increases during these periods.
