People in parts of Britain were rudely awoken last night after a 3.3-magnitude earthquake shook their homes - but it's not the first time a quake has struck this country. Houses in the north west of England shuddered from side to side late last night , with locals reporting fixtures and fittings rattling when the earthquake struck shortly after 11.23pm. The British Geological Survey (BGS) said it was felt across Lancashire and the southern Lake District, including the towns of Kendal and Ulverston, within 12 miles of the epicentre.
