Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and pop star Katy Perry met with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko, for lunch in Tokyo this week. Kishida shared a photo of the gathering on Instagram, showing the four smiling in front of a Christmas tree. "Former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau came to Japan with his partner Katy Perry and had lunch with us," Kishida wrote. He reflected on their past collaborations, stating, "During my time as Prime Minister, I met Prime Ministers many times, and during my visit to Canada, we worked together to strengthen our bilateral relations, including formulating the ‘Nikka Action Plan.’" The Nikka Action Plan, also known as the Canada-Japan Action Plan, was established in 2022. It outlines cooperation between the two nations on various issues, including security, trade, energy, and humanitarian responses in the Indo-Pacific region. Kishida emphasized that Canada is an "extremely important partner to Japan in all areas of politics, security, economics, culture," and more. It remains unclear if the lunch was prearranged. Perry was in Tokyo for the final shows of her world tour. Earlier this week, she and Trudeau were spotted walking through the Asakusa district, a popular tourist destination in Tokyo. They were later seen holding hands after leaving the Sumo Stable Annex, where they enjoyed a live wrestling match while dining on traditional Japanese cuisine. The lunch with Kishida and his wife came before Perry's second consecutive performance at the Saitama Super Arena. Her 91-show tour is set to conclude on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
