A man armed with a knife was shot and killed by Baltimore County police after officers responded to a reported stabbing in Essex on Wednesday night, according to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.
The Independent Investigations Division said the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, when officers went to the 900 block of Holgate Drive for a 911 call reporting a stabbing. Officers arrived and found a man with a knife inside the apartment.
Investigators said officers gave verbal commands before multiple officers fired their service weapons and struck the man. Officers provided medical aid until EMS arrived. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A woman with an apparent stab wound was found inside the apartment and taken to a hospital for treatment. One officer was also injured during the incident and was taken to a hospital.
State investigators said a knife was recovered at the scene.
The Attorney General’s Office said the name of the man who died, along with the names of the officers who fired their weapons, will be released within two business days unless more time is needed under agency protocol.
All responding officers were wearing body cameras, and the Independent Investigations Division plans to release footage within 20 business days, though that timeline can be extended for investigative or technical reasons.
