Prince George’s County Police say they’ve tracked down the man accused of gunning down a 23-year-old at MGM National Harbor in the middle of the day.

The department announced Thursday, Dec. 4, that 22-year-old Benjamin Williams of Fort Washington is now charged in the killing of Darnell Hawkins Jr. of Washington, DC in the food court a day earlier.

It all unfolded just before lunch on Wednesday, Dec 3.

Officers rushed to MGM National Harbor at approximately 11:55 a.m. for a report of a shooting. When they got there, they found Hawkins on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He died at the scene.

A second man suffered a graze wound in the incident, which was reportedly targeted.

It is believed that the victim was ordering food when a group approached him and opened fire, investigators said. They then fled in a Honda Accord.

Detectives wasted no time locking in a suspect, who had fled the scene before officers arrived.

“Through various investigative techniques, detectives identified Williams as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant,” PGPD said.

The department’s Fugitive Unit found him Thursday morning and took him into custody.

He was charged with first- and second-degree murder, along with additional related offenses. He is being held in custody at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.”

Investigators say the two men knew each other, but they’re still working to figure out the motive.
