SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A woman was arrested by U.S. Marshals and Spokane Valley detectives after her child allegedly overdosed on fentanyl pills that reportedly belonged to her.

According to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service, Briana Smutz was arrested on Wednesday near North Argonne Road and Grace Road by Spokane Valley Police Department detectives and U.S. Marshals. The arrest was made without incident.

The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office Proactive Narcotic Enforcement Task Force identified Smutz’s location the day before, leading to the swift arrest.

Smutz was wanted on a Stevens County Superior Court felony warrant. The charges include third-degree assault of a child, abandonment of a dependent person and violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act related to fent
