SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A mom wanted in a child overdose case was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Spokane Valley on Wednesday.
According to the Marshals Service, Briana Smutz was arrested near North Argonne Road and Grace Road in Spokane Valley on December 3.
Smutz was wanted for several charges, including third-degree child assault, first-degree abandonment of a dependent person and violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act and possession with intent to deliver fentanyl.
The U.S. Marshals Service said the charges stem from when Smutz's two-year-old was exposed to fentanyl pills that allegedly belonged to Smutz. The Marshals Service said the child then suffered symptoms consistent with a fentanyl overdose.
