LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
For the first time in almost three decades, the Louisville Zoo is home to Sumatran orangutans.
Sumagu, 38, and her daughter, Kera, 7, came from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado.
This is the first time in 28 years Sumatran orangutans have joined the zoo.
They are now both rotating with the Louisville Zoo's three other orangutans in the dayroom at the Islands habitat. Once it warms up, they'll be able to go outside in the Islands habitat as well.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Sumagu and Kera to the Louisville Zoo family,” said Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney. “Both are gorgeous, and we encourage every member of our community to come see our newest residents. This is a great time of the year to visit the Zoo during Kroger’s Wild Winter Days running now
