FRANKFORT, Ky. —
After a long wait, medical marijuana is close to being available in Kentucky, according to Gov. Andy Beshear.
It was legalized in Kentucky at the beginning of 2025, but has yet to be sold in the Commonwealth.
There are 48 dispensaries spread across the state, and Beshear says the first one will be ready in a matter of weeks.
"So I believe within the next couple of weeks that our first dispensary will have product on its shelf. That is the Ohio County dispensary that we think will be the first. But we believe it's going to scale up, very quickly from that first moment," Beshear said.
Ohio County is in the western part of Kentucky.
Beshear added there are multiple cultivators with harvested product that are in the testing phase.
