Police in Wetaskiwin are investigating a fatal collision involving an SUV and a school bus that killed a 70-year-old man from Sherwood Park on Thursday morning.

Officers received a report just before 8 a.m. of a serious head-on collision involving a school bus and a vehicle on Highway 814 and Township Road 480 near Millet.

When police arrived, they found the lone driver of the SUV dead on the scene. Police have identified the man as a 70-year-old resident of Sherwood Park.

Police said five occupants, including four students on the bus, were uninjured in the collision.

Investigators remained on the scene for several hours, and although the investigation remains open, police believe poor road conditions may have contributed to the crash.
