A damaged vessel washed ashore in La Jolla Thursday, prompting a U.S. Coast Guard San Diego Sector-led investigation in which five life vests were discovered.

Around 7 a.m. Thursday, USCG personnel were notified about an unmanned boat near Windansea Beach, according to San Diego lifeguards who were on duty.

No victims were immediately found but USCG officials were investigating the vessel's origin.

Lifeguards in the area remained on high alert.
