AMES, Iowa —

Following nearly 50 years at Iowa State University in various capacities and the last eight as president, Dr. Wendy Wintersteen is in her final weeks in that title.

Wintersteen announced her retirement in May. She will officially retire on Jan. 2.

“I hope they know it’s been a tremendous honor for me to serve in this role and that I love Iowa State,” said Wintersteen.

Wintersteen became Iowa State University’s first female president in 2017. However, prior to that, she served as the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the university. Even before that, she started out working for the ISU Extension Office, completed her doctorate in entomology, and became a professor of entomology all within Iowa State University.
