Prosecutors have reduced charges against a young Española man accused of fatally shooting his friend in the parking lot of an Ohkay Owingeh casino.

Gerald Trujillo, 21, now faces counts of involuntary manslaughter, negligent use of a deadly weapon while intoxicated and tampering with evidence, according to recent court filings. Police allege Trujillo was sitting in his vehicle intoxicated outside Ohkay Hotel Casino when he shot and killed his friend, 21-year-old Elias Tiberi, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

Trujillo was initially charged with second-degree murder in the Nov. 15 shooting, but the reduced charge was filed earlier this week. He was ordered to be released from jail on house arrest during a court hearing Thursday.
