SHEFFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio (WOIO) - A computer software glitch in Lorain County’s 911 system delayed paramedics responding to an off-duty police officer’s cardiac arrest on Nov. 21, prompting calls for system improvements.
Lt. Aaron Bober went into cardiac arrest and later died. Sheffield Village Fire Department was delayed being notified by one minute due to the dispatch system malfunction.
According to Lorain 911, the call came in to dispatch and the dispatcher followed protocol by notifying the fire department. But the computer software glitch prevented the normal lights and radio call from being heard inside the fire department, so no paramedic heard the alarm.
