LARAMIE — Jay Sawvel will return as the University of Wyoming’s football coach next season.
That’s according to Tom Burman, who’s in his 19th year as UW’s athletics director. Burman addressed questions about the Cowboys football program following the end of its 4-8 campaign Thursday.
Sawvel, who wrapped up his second season as the Cowboys’ head coach, has a career record of 7-17, including a 4-11 mark in Mountain West play.
The Cowboys ended the year on a four-game losing streak to fall out of bowl eligibility for the second consecutive season.
“We expect a dramatic improvement next year,” Burman said. “We need it, and I believe today Jay Sawvel is the best guy to get us to a better ’26 football season.”
The Cowboys’ offense has been the primary reason for the team’s lackluster result
