AKRON, Ohio — 3News has learned of some issues with METRO RTA busing in the city of Akron .
After doing some digging, we discovered that members of the Transport Workers Union Local 1 have been working without a contract for more than a year.
Riders, be warned: The union says buses may run behind schedule as the two sides work through these issues.
"I believe we've overextended the schedule. The drivers are exhausted; they haven't had a raise in two-and-a-half years. We haven't had a contract ratified in 18 months," explained TWU Local 1 President Wayne Cole. "It's taken a lot of overtime work for the operators to keep up with the service that METRO has displayed on the public schedule, and I think there's just a lot of frustration."
