DAVENPORT, Iowa ( WQAD ) - A broken walk-in cooler forced volunteers to throw away around $2,000 worth of food the nonprofit planned to donate during this week’s freezing temperatures.
King’s Harvest Ministries had just picked up a large donation when a leak caused everything inside the cooler to spoil.
“It was just very disheartening because watching it go into the dumpster was like, oh this is what we could’ve used to help feed the community,” said volunteer Andrea Lapp. “Instead of being able to use it in a positive productive manner, it went into a dumpster and rotted.”
Emergency repairs have the cooler up and running again for the time being. Volunteers were able to regroup and get food to help around 100 people on Wednesday.
