ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A crucial public-health vote affecting newborns was postponed Thursday, as the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) delayed its decision on Hepatitis B vaccination recommendations for newborns.
Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, former CDC director turned Harvard Medical School professor, responded to the delay.
“The agenda has been shifted around in ways that I am unaccustomed to,” Walensky said. “So watching this is different than the ACIP that I came to know during my tenure. It doesn’t seem to be different than how the last meeting has evolved. So I can’t say that I was remarkably surprised.”
The vote will decide on pushing the recommendation of a Hep-B vaccine until babies are at least two months old.
