LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Transportation and Utilities held and open house Thursday night for an upcoming project along South 48th Street they hope to start next year.

Officials say a water main on South 48th Street between South Cotner Boulevard and Normal Boulevard needs to be replaced after a number of breaks over the years, including several this past summer.

After the main is fixed, crews will focus on the street itself, replacing the pavement, curbs and several traffic signals among other minor improvements.

LTU is also considering adding a small roundabout at 48th and Sumner Street, though that could end up being a two-way stop instead.

Thomas Shafer, LTU’s assistant director of transportation, said he hopes this will be the end of construction in that area for a while.
