DULUTH — Just over a minute into the second period, Duluth Marshall senior Bennett Scissons caught the puck in the neutral zone Thursday at Mars Lakeview Arena.
From just below the blue line, Scissons fired a bullet over the shoulder of Stars goalie Roef Roeller to put the Hilltoppers up a goal.
“It was the end of a power play and I kind of walked it in,” Scissons said. “I saw their D there, so I tried to put it around him, shoot it and it ended up going in.”
The Hilltoppers needed another goal in the third period from junior Brayden Hannula to secure a 2-1 win over Gentry.
Using the defender as a screen for the goalie is something Marshall practices daily, coach Shawn Bartlette said, but the Scissons defensive effort was what helped make the play. “He’s defensively accountable,” Bartl
