Omaha Police released the name of the suspect in two Omaha shootings Wednesday that injured one victim and four police officers.

Investigators say 28-year-old Juan Melgar-Ayala was the suspect in a North Omaha grocery store shooting and a South Omaha shootout with officers. Police shot and killed Melgar-Ayala Wednesday during the shootout.

Court documents show that Melgar-Ayala had prior burglary felonies in Douglas County. In 2021, he pleaded no-contest to two counts of burglary for breaking into multiple businesses and stealing supplies. He also pleaded guilty to several traffic misdemeanors for not having a valid driver's license or vehicle insurance.
