CANTON, Ohio — While the temperature read 21 degrees at kickoff Thursday night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, a case could be made that Avon won its second OHSAA state football championship in much balmier conditions.

Avon coach Mike Elder looked back at his team’s Week 2 loss in Florida as one of the biggest determining factors in the Eagles’ ability to defend their state championship.

He looked back on it after they beat Cincinnati Anderson, 37-20 , on Thursday in Canton.

More than three months earlier, Avon (14-1) returned from Florida and a three-point loss with the awaiting challenge of Glenville, which also made it to Canton for this weekend’s state championships. But that week provided Avon with its awakening for 11 straight victories and a dominant run to its title defens
