CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in effect for parts of West Virginia until mid-morning Friday.
Snow moved in from the south overnight dumping a few inches of snow on the southern coalfields, through the Greenbrier Valley and north into the eastern mountain counties.
The advisory, which expires at 10 a.m. Friday, says the coalfields will end up with 2 to 4 inches with the eastern mountains picking up 3 to 5.
More than a dozen county school systems began the day on a delayed schedule.
The snow comes at a good time for ski resorts who are opening their seasons. Timberline in Tucker County opened Thursday, Snowshoe Mountain Friday and Winterplace in Raleigh County will drop the ropes Saturday.
