A Scots schoolboy who was diagnosed with a brain tumour after being weeks away from losing his vision is celebrating a year of being cancer-free.
Mason Mackenzie, nine, from Elphinstone in East Lothian , was diagnosed with choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC), a rare and fast-growing brain cancer, last year. His tumour was found less than a millimetre from his visual cortex, and doctors warned he was just four weeks away from losing his sight.
The brave schoolboy underwent major brain surgery in March 2024 followed by several gruelling months of high-intensity chemotherapy. Due to the rarity of CPC, clinicians could not predict how effective treatment would be.
But all odds, Mason rang the end-of-treatment bell last December and is now celebrating
