Sarnia’s mayor has opted to use his veto, nixing some council changes to Sarnia’s 2026 budget.
Council still can override any vetoes with a two-thirds, six-vote majority. The next scheduled council meeting is Dec. 15.
Mike Bradley, using his veto power for the first time since accepting strong mayor powers in 2023, vetoed Friday a 5-4 council vote from Nov. 27 budget deliberations to borrow $5 million for engineering and site prep work for an estimated $91-million police station .
Bradley also vetoed a 7-2 council decision to potentially borrow $4.1 million for a proposed $23-million sports complex known as Sarnia Bace .
Making those decisions weren’t easy, Bradley said.
