NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A business owner is facing several charges after North Charleston Police officers found two animals in ‘inhumane conditions’ inside his business.
Richard Brian Nelson, 62, is charged with ill treatment of animals, grand larceny valued at $10,000 or more, receiving stolen goods less than $2,000 (enhanced) and obtaining goods under false pretenses, according to jail records.
The arrest stemmed when officers received surveillance footage of Nelson striking a dog on its lower leg and foot inside his Dutton Avenue business on Nov. 14. The reason for his attack remains unclear.
Upon arrival, they learned that two dogs were kept inside the building at all times, even when Nelson was away. They also found the dogs living in deplorable conditions with urine, feces
