Windsor residents will get their first chance to skate at the city’s new downtown rink this weekend as the City Hall Square ice rink officially opens.
The city will hold its grand-opening celebration on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes entertainment, family activities, vendors and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Drew Dilkens and downtown Coun. Renaldo Agostino.
The rink was completed as part of the new civic esplanade project, which aims to reshape the area between City Hall and the Detroit River. The space is also open year-round and is used to host events.
Live performances from the Music Moves Kids Choir, DJ Chris James and an appearance from Santa Claus are scheduled throughout the day. Free hot chocolate, popcorn and City of Windsor toques will also
