SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – New stores at Springfield Crossing are now opening and the latest is PetSmart, who started welcoming customers to the redeveloped site of the former Eastfield Mall on Friday.

The pet supply store held a soft opening Friday to prepare employees for Saturday’s grand opening along Boston Road. Store Leader Ruth DiBuono said staff has been preparing since early November. “Oh, it’s been so fun,” she explained. “We’ve had staff in here, you know, since early November, getting it ready for our new customers to come in.”

PetSmart will offer special deals to commemorate the opening. The first 125 customers will receive gift bags containing $10 gift cards and promotional items while supplies last. “It means a lot to us to be the first,” DiBuono added. “We hope to just
