Premier Doug Ford and Mayor Olivia Chow both expect the long-delayed Eglinton Crosstown LRT to finally open in the new year — just days after the province’s transportation minister said there was a possibility the line could open before the end of the year .
“I’ll be safe and say 2026,” Ford told reporters at an event on Friday for the city’s other newly built light-rail line, the Finch West LRT. “But very soon after 2026.”
“There’s always those last little touches,” he added.
“God knows we’ve only waited 15 years for this, so might as well wait until they’re ready,” the premier added.
Meanwhile, Chow, at a watch party for the World Cup draw, said the TTC and provincial transit agency Metrolinx are still working to “iron out some minor issues” on the line.
