Western University education researchers and others are hosting two webinars probing the topic of local school governance amid the provincial takeover of several Ontario school boards.

Education Minister Paul Calandra is looking at restructuring the trustee system in Ontario, although he recently stepped back from having a plan in place by year’s end as he examines the constitutional ramifications for French and Catholic boards.

“This is a series of two webinars organized by researchers, educators and people interested in public education in Ontario,” said Gus Riveros, associate professor in Western’s faculty of education, who is the moderator of the second webinar. “The topic is the question of local school governance, in particular the recent takeover of school boards by the province.
