Fares will be free for the Finch West LRT for its official opening this weekend, Toronto's mayor told reporters as she and other officials toured the new Line 6 Friday.

The 10.3-kilometre light-rail transit line, which has 18 stops along Finch Avenue W. between Humber College's north campus and Finch West station, is finally opening Sunday after four years of delays.

Mayor Olivia Chow joined other officials Friday morning for a train ride along the line, where she encouraged Torontonians to take advantage of Sunday's free fare.

The mayor was joined Friday by Premier Doug Ford, who thanked the Toronto Transit Commission, Metrolinx and all three levels of government for helping to complete the project.
