Three Pittsburgh organizations are among more than 200 groups across the country to receive grants from artificial intelligence giant OpenAI.

More than $40 million total will be awarded, OpenAI, the company behind trailblazing artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, said in a Wednesday news release. An additional $9.5 million is expected to be allocated in the coming months.

Close to 3,000 organizations applied for the grants, awarded through the company’s nonprofit arm, the OpenAI Foundation. The Steel City recipients include the Downtown-based Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras; the South Side’s YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh; and North Shore’s Forbes Funds, which aids nonprofits in southwestern Pennsylvania in management, growth and networking.
