LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Flags across Kentucky will be lowered to half-staff this weekend in honor of America's veterans.
On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear directed flags at all state office buildings be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, Dec. 7 in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is in memory and honor of the more than 2,400 Americans who died in a surprise attack on the U.S. Naval fleet's Pearl Harbor base in Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941, the governor's office shared.
The day after the attack, then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the day as "a day which will live in infamy," and signed a Declaration of War against Japan.
