TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Conservationists are watching their fight to stop construction along the border blow up in front of their eyes, literally.

The Center for Biological Diversity sued the Department of Homeland Security back in July to try and stop construction of the border wall.

As legal action inches forward, construction carries on.

Russ McSpadden has been taking trips to the border to keep tabs on the border wall construction. This past Wednesday, he started to get nervous.

“I saw that there were about a dozen guys in hard hats packing explosives into the mountain,” McSpadden said.

Plumes of dust soon covered the slopes of the Coronado National Memorial to prepare the land for a double border wall.

“It’s a real stab in the heart to see this,” McSpadden said.
