NEW YORK — Convicted killer Levi Aron has died while serving a sentence for one of New York City’s most notorious child murders, CBS News reported . He was 49.
Aron had been transferred to a hospital near the Wende Correctional Facility in Erie County earlier this year for treatment of a medical condition. He died shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, sources said. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, News 12 The Bronx and CBS reported.
According to ABC News , in 2011, Aron abducted eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky as the boy walked home from a day camp in Brooklyn, He later drugged and smothered the child, dismembered his body and disposed of the remains, shocking the city’s Orthodox Jewish community and prompting a massive search.
