METAIRIE, La. — Federal immigration sweeps across Jefferson Parish are prompting more residents to track and livestream the movements of Border Patrol agents, creating a fast-growing network of community alerts. On Friday, those alerts led to a confrontation at Lafreniere Park between an organizer and the commander overseeing federal operations in the region.

The livestream was hosted by Rachel Taber on the Unión Migrante Facebook page. Taber is a community organizer who has been documenting locations where residents say Border Patrol agents have been seen. When followers shared alerts pointing to Lafreniere Park, Taber went to the area and continued streaming as she approached Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino.
