OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The 2025 March of Dimes report card for Nebraska shows babies born to Black moms are two times more likely to die.

They’re also the second most likely ethnic group to deliver babies pre-term. I spoke to one woman whose birthing experience was rife with difficulties.

By the time they’re two, kids are starting to show a little personality.

“I was singing ‘Frozen’ one day and she looked at me like can you stop so she has the looks down pat,” said Xuri Gideon, talking about her daughter Freyja.

Mom doesn’t mind.

“She’s strong-willed,” Xuri said of her daughter. “That’s what they say about NICU babies.”

Xuri Gideon says it’s a miracle her daughter Freyja is alive.

“She should’ve been born in a hospital, not a bathroom,” Xuri said.
