Lined up on the two-yard line in the comforts of Gardiner Memorial Stadium, Notre Dame football’s playoff fate hung in the balance. The Pioneers hosted Calvary Baptist in an LHSAA Select Division III showdown with a trip to the Superdome on the line. After going back and forth for four quarters and overtime, the game came down to this fourth-and-goal play.
Senior running back Joachim Bourgeois took the snap, cut to the outside and back in before a host of Cavalier defenders sent him backward, ending the Pioneers’ season with a 34-28 loss.
“We scored on this play earlier and it was a couple yards out just trying to get Joachim to find a crease, and they kind of jumped out there on it,” Notre Dame coach Lew Cook said. “They made the play and we didn’t.”
