Joe Vassalotti is ready for a change.

Vassalotti has decided to retire as the Coordinator of Athletics in Akron Public Schools after 10½ years in the position. His final day is Dec. 30, which concludes "34.31 years in education."

"I have worked with some outstanding educators and student-athletes through the years," Vassalotti said. "Literally, thousands. Not only our coaches, but also our principals, teachers and staff down at the administration building. That has been wonderful. A very dedicated and professional staff, and some outstanding student-athletes."
