An 87-year-old woman has tragically died following a serious road traffic collision in Scotland. The incident occurred at approximately 6.55pm on Friday, December 5, on the A706 near Carriber Mill, close to Linlithgow. The crash involved a red Honda Civic and a silver Volkswagen T-Roc.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. The elderly woman, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were taken to hospital with serious injuries. This included a 21-year-old man, who was driving the Honda, a 64-year-old man, the driver of the Volkswagen, and a 63-year-old woman, also a passenger in the Volkswagen.

The road was closed for approximately eight hours to facilitate an investigation, reopening around 2am on Saturday, December 6. Sergeant Barry Sommerville of Police Scotland has appealed for witnesses to come forward. He stated, "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the woman who died at this extremely difficult time, and our enquiries into the crash are ongoing."

Sgt Sommerville specifically requested information from anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash, particularly the driver of a Range Rover who was on the road around the same time. He added, "I’d also ask that anyone with dash-cam footage review this and see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation."

In a separate incident, emergency services responded to a serious crash in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, on Thursday evening. The collision occurred at around 8.30pm at the junction of Bolton Road and Eskdale Avenue, involving two vehicles. One woman was cut from a vehicle and taken to hospital, while four others sustained injuries and were treated at the scene.
