There’s no question that today’s version of college football is a lot different than the one Nick Saban coached in for several decades. The sport has even changed drastically from his final season in 2023 before retiring at Alabama and handing the program over to Kalen DeBoer.

The 12-team College Football Playoff has been introduced, NIL reshaped the landscape, the transfer portal exploded, and the business side of the sport has shifted dramatically.

However, according to Saban — now in his second year on ESPN’s College GameDay — there should be a commissioner overseeing all conferences, along with a competition committee that “defines the rules of how we’re going to play the game.”
