A national campaign to eradicate the flow of fentanyl, the illicit substance behind the nation’s deadliest drug crisis, was launched by the Drug Enforcement Agency on Wednesday.

Dubbed Operation Fentanyl Free America, the effort seeks to reduce both the supply and the demand through comprehensive enforcement and public awareness efforts, according to a DEA statement.

On Friday, St. George News interviewed Special Agent Miguel Chino of the DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division at the St. George Police Department.

Chino said that while the DEA still focuses on other illicit drugs such as methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin, this ongoing campaign targets one particular substance.
