A Canandaigua man has been charged in connection with a violent assault that left another man critically injured at the D&D Motel this week.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Justin A. Rogers of 4450 County Road 50, Room 1, has been charged with first-degree assault, a Class B violent felony. Court records allege Rogers attacked 53-year-old John D. Kirby during a fight inside Room 1 of the motel, striking him in the head with an axe and causing severe injuries to his scalp and neck.
Deputies initially responded to the motel on December 5, around 7:30 a.m. after a welfare check call reported a possibly injured man. They arrived with the Canandaigua Emergency Squad and found Kirby unresponsive with significant traumatic injuries. He was treated at the scene and
