MILLINOCKET, Maine — Early morning wind chills and below-freezing temperatures didn’t stop more than 3,200 registered participants from signing up for the 10th annual Millinocket Marathon & Half Marathon on Saturday.
Spectators lined the streets to cheer runners, turning the frigid weather into a celebration of endurance and community spirit.
"The great thing about this race is everybody is happy," longtime supporter Margaret Peckman said.
The event is entirely volunteer-run and offers free registration. Founder Gary Allen said the marathon is designed to help small businesses and showcase the grit of Maine’s largest small town.
