A violent confrontation inside a Pennsylvania home erupted into gunfire as a woman tried to flee in her car, state police announced on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Matthew Luke, of Foster Township, is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence early Saturday morning and striking her in the face with a gun during a verbal and physical fight, according to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.
Another woman inside the home heard the yelling and thuds, ran outside, and attempted to drive away from the scene. Police say Luke exited the house and fired at her vehicle as she tried to maneuver around his car, which was blocking the driveway. The driver’s window shattered, causing her to crash. She was able to escape and run to safety.
Luke sped off in the vehicle he arrived in, but was later found by troopers and taken into custody. Corporal Sierra Rooke is the lead investigator.
He was charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Burglary, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault, Propulsion of Missile in an Occupied Vehicle, and related offenses, authorities said. His preliminary arraignment was held before on-call Magisterial District Judge Richard Luther, who set bail at $1 million. Luke was remanded to McKean County Jail and is scheduled for central court on Dec. 11.
State police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
