ALBANY, Ore. - David Russell, a 105-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor, was honored on Sunday for his service at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 584 in Albany. As one of the last 14 survivors of the attack, Russell's legacy was celebrated with a ceremony attended by local leaders and fellow veterans.
"Never forget. You know, if it weren't for the men and women of that generation, things could be a lot different right now," VFW commander and veteran, Zachary Draper, said.
Russell, the last survivor of the USS Oklahoma, was also honored with a flag flown over the Capitol. Oregon State Rep. Shelly Boshart Davis, along with offices of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer and Congressman Cliff Bentz, presented Russell with a 2025 Gold Medallion Award from the United States Department of Labor Vet
