The Glendale City Council will vote on an ordinance regulating the use of electric bikes and scooters at its only December meeting.

This is the first of three ordinances in the council resolutions section of the 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 meeting’s agenda. It will come with a presentation.

Based on the consensus the City Council gained during a Sept. 9 workshop, age requirements would be as follows:

E-scooter - age 12 and up.

Class 1 and 2 e-bikes with a top speed of 21 mph - age 14 and up.

Class 3 bikes with a top speed of 28 mph - age 16 and up.

Removing the governor on e-bikes to allow them to travel at speeds above 28 mph will be illegal. Helmets are required until age 18, in line with state laws for motorcyclists.
