A man has died following an 'altercation' at a property on Saturday evening after emergency services battled to save his life.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) says it was called out to an altercation at an address in Oldham following an 'altercation'. Officers and paramedics treated a 55-year-old man at the property on Plumpton Close, in Royton, at around 7.50pm on Saturday.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A 59-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning this morning.

Police are urging anyone with information, or relevant CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to come forward.

“Any incident of this nature is naturally shocking and I fully appreciate that the community will be worried and shocked by this news," said Detective Inspector Louise Kelly, from GMP’s Major Incident Team.

“However, we are treating this as an isolated incident, with no threat to the wider public. We have one man in custody who was arrested at the scene and are working to establish the full circumstances of the man’s death.

“As we continue our work, I would urge anyone who has any information regarding the events of last night to please come forward. This includes anyone who saw or heard anything or has any footage from the area at the time. Any information you provide could be of great benefit as we work to get justice.”
