Certain drivers will be exempt from vehicle tax payments in 2026. There are specific situations where motorists can avoid the annual charge.

Vehicle Excise Duty is an obligation for most drivers each year, although there is an option to distribute payments over time. The standard rate for all vehicles registered after April 2017 - excluding brand new ones - currently stands at £195 per annum.

However, there are instances where drivers are not required to pay, reports Birmingham Live . Vehicles for disabled passengers : Vehicles utilised by organisations to transport disabled individuals are exempt from this payment.
