Drivers are sharply split over the pay per mile charge for Electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids announced in the Budget according to new polling from Auto Express .
While four in ten think the new charge – due to come into force in 2028 - is ‘fair’, arguing that EV drivers should contribute to road costs like everyone else, a third believe the timing is poor, warning it will slow the switch to EVs just as adoption begins to accelerate.
And almost one in four think it is unfair, arguing that EVs already pay VED and VAT and any extra charges on top of that could undermine green progress.
